Description
In fifteenth-century Florence, Lorenzo de’ Medici stands at the centre of a dazzling but dangerous world of power, art, money and ambition. Told through the eyes of Caterina, a Medici slave keeping a secret journal, this vivid portrait reveals the loneliness beneath Lorenzo’s brilliance and the tension between public duty and private feeling. As his wealth and influence grow, he comes into bitter conflict with Friar Girolamo Savonarola, with destructive consequences for both. Magnifico brings Renaissance Florence to life as a story of beauty, power, love and the cost of living at history’s centre.
